Strangely, Gordon Brown, Harriet Harman, right, and Peter Hain were among the MPs who declined to sign up for National Tell the Truth Day on January 3.
I wouldn't dream of drawing any conclusions from this, but proxies for the MPs wrote to thank Tamara Gillan, the businesswoman who is organising it, politely declining her invitation to take part.
The response of Peter Luff, the Tory MP for Mid Worcestershire, was more robust: "The suggestion that an MP should support giving one day a year to telling the truth is bizarre - just what do you think we do the rest of the time?" What indeed?
